1976/2025 Airstream ARGOSY with Aft Deck
This was a one-of-a-kind passion project and concept build.
1976 Airstream Argosy 28T Bicentennial Edition with a fantastic, yacht themed renovation.
This Airstream Argosy 28T tandem-axle travel trailer was purchased in 2021 and subsequently refurbished and modified - undergoing an extensive, yacht-inspired resto-mod chassis up transformation.
It was a full on spec build. Basically from a dream… a labor of love. This Airstream was inspired by a large dent in the upper rear end cap that we were having difficulty finding replacement parts for when the idea hit me.
A great deal of engineering, labor, and care went into the modified stern of this camper trailer. The aft section was reconfigured as an open-air deck with a retractable Bimini top. The end result is a one-of-a-kind vintage modern mash-up, yacht themed luxury travel trailer, with an open air lounge!
When we shared this vintage Argosy - transformed into a modern luxury travel trailer - it resonated in a big way. It went viral and earned over 600,000 views and tens of thousands of interactions on social media.
Original Argosy emblems were restored - inlaid with resin colored with custom blended mica powders.
The aluminum exterior of the Argosy was repainted turquoise blue with black during the refurbishment.
The chrome trim is a detail that we really like.
The aft section of this camper trailer has been reconfigured as an Open-Air Deck. A custom built aluminum door leads to the Aft Deck, which is outfitted with two functioning porthole windows and a Custom Retractable Bimini Awning.
Aft Deck features pair of director’s chairs, and marine-style audio speakers along with floor drains.
Open-air Aft Deck with Bimini Awning - the perfect outdoor lounge!
Removeable table and propane grill on the rear deck.
Varnished African Sapele wood railing with polished stainless steel marine hardware.
Imagine parking this one-of-a-kind Airstream and walking out on the back deck to your favorite view!
Functioning torpedo style upper marker lights.
The forward lounge has the iconic wrap-around windows, classic upper vista view windows, front curtains, roll-up shades, operating ceiling vents, a convertible sofa bed, and Lifeproof Bamboo Flooring. A restored original folding side table seats up to 5 people.
After completing this Airstream, we modified it to optimize the layout for our customers short term rental intentions. This photo shows the Argosy with final modifications.
Interior layout includes a front lounge, center galley, bathroom, and spacious rear berth. A Flatscreen TV is secured on an adjustable mount. Bluetooth-enabled marine speakers are throughout the Camper.
The galley has custom quartz countertops. The cabinets and drawers all feature soft-close hardware. There is a two-burner propane cooktop, and a microwave oven.
Kitchen features a deep single basin sink and an under-sink water filter. There is also a refrigerator freezer, Retro coffee maker and griddle toaster oven combo.
The bathroom houses a vanity, sink and porcelain toilet.
Across the walkway is a custom luxury shower with a unique stained glass dragonfly porthole window.
Next to the shower is a quartz desk with reading lights and a hinged window. Mid-Century Modern decorating accents can be found throughout the interior. (The shower and desk were added post restoration for the resort that purchased this unit.)
High gloss automotive paint and chrome trim.
All new marker lights and reflectors.
The chassis is equipped with stabilizer jacks and full underglow LED lighting. Dual propane tanks are painted turquoise blue and mounted on the tongue, and all new utility connections for water, 30 amp electricity, and waste disposal are positioned on the street side.
Mounted just to the right of the entry door is an uncirculated 1776–1976 silver dollar. I added it as a simple tribute to the trailer’s bicentennial-year build. It’s a small detail that helps connect it to its history and the era it originally came from.
SHE MADE IT HOME
When the Argosy was finished it was ready for the open road, but it could just as easily transform into a lakeside or oceanside entertaining space - with the deck doubling as a bar or lounge area. We imagined the Argosy parked with the deck overhanging an epic view…
Guess what! The Argosy was purchased by Smoky Mountain Lakeside Resort & Marina on Douglas Lake near Pigeon Forge, Tennessee will be taking bookings starting in 2026!
